Function Overview

Highlights of Scanning the QR Code in the Product Manual to Access the Online Network Connection Page

The PID-based QR code remains unchanged despite the changes of the network connection content. You can use your App to scan the QR code and configure the network based on the latest network connection guide. With only a QR code in the product manual, we can:

  • Provide accurate product-specific network connection method to increase the network connection success rate.

  • Default the network connection content to that provided for TuyaSmart or Smart Life app.

  • Support sorting and displaying network connection methods for different network connection modes.

  • Ensure that product packaging and delivery are not affected by network connection paths or localization issues.

  • Update the network connection methods while keeping the QR code unchanged, and do not affect the use of the paper product manuals.

  • Make it easy for customers because they only need to scan the QR code with their apps and follow the instructions for network connections.

Supported Versions

  • TuyaSmart and Smart Life (V3.12.0 and later)

Smart Life:

Tuya Smart:

  • OEM App (ODM/V3.12.0 and later)

Configuration Instructions on the IoT Platform

Configuration Path

Log in to the IoT platform, select a product (PID), locate the five steps for product configuration, and choose Extensions > Network Connections Guides.

Mapping of the Configuration on the IoT Platform and That Displayed on the App

The network connection content is displayed on the left of the configuration page, and the display effect on the App is displayed on the right.

Procedure

QR Code Downloading

The PID-based QR code remains unchanged despite the changes of the network connection content. You can use the QR code as the network connection content in the paper product manual to ensure early product packaging. Detailed network connection steps and descriptions can be configured on web pages.

Homepage Configurations

(1) Network connection instructions: The network connection homepage briefly introduces the key network connection steps, including the necessary information for entering the network connection state. Example: If the indicator is blinking rapidly, skip the reset step. ① Step 1: Power on the device. ② Step 2: Press and hold down the Reset button (switch) for five seconds until the device enters the network connection state. ③ Step 3: Verify that the indicator rapidly blinks. (2) Network connection guide icon: PNG and GIF images are supported. We recommend that you use GIF images, as shown in the preceding figure. (3) Button text: Text for buttons is described concisely and based on the actual network connection status. (4) Resetting Devices: For details, see section 2.3.3.

Title of help article (Resetting Devices)

(1) View help links By default, if the content in SetUp is not updated, it is the same as the network connection content of the corresponding product category. If you update the content in SetUp, you need to save the changes before viewing the updated content in View help links.

(2) SetUp Every network connection step requires a detailed description and a corresponding image (GIF images supported). After modification, you can click Preview to view the configuration content.

Content Display

The platform creates default network connection modes based on products. You can select and sort content based on business requirements.

Saving

Multi-language Configurations

If localization is required for the network connection content, click More languages. The available languages are determined by the level of your IoT account. You can choose Account and modify Account Type to upgrade your account level).

Usage on the App

Open the app, tap + in the upper right corner, tap the QR code scanning icon, and scan the QR code to view the online network connection page.

Use Cases

Problems with the Original Paper Product Manuals

Due to limited space:

  • Only two small images are provided for network connection guidance. Detailed descriptions on how to enter the network connection state are not provided.

  • The font and images for operations are too small to read.

  • If the network connection UI changes, the paper product manual needs to be designed and printed again.

New Paper Product Manuals

The network connection guidance is replaced with a QR code.

  • You can scan the QR code to access the network connection page of the product. You can view detailed network connection guidance on the web page. (This QR code is provided as an example. Please use the QR code based on the PID.)

  • More space of the paper product manual is available for adding product information.

  • When the network connection guidance is updated, the paper product manual does not need to be re-produced.

Network connection descriptions

Vague and inaccurate

Detailed and with unlimited space

Impact of network connection content updates on the paper product manual

The paper product manual needs to be re-produced.

The paper product manual does not need to be changed, and online content can be updated in time.

Impact of network connection content on product delivery

The product manual can be printed in batches only after the product is ready.

The QR code is generated based on the PID and remains unchanged. This means the product manuals can be printed in advance.

App display

The public release of the App only provides the general network connection content, and the OEM App is required in actual network connection.

Both the public release App and OEM App provide product-specific content and images.

Network connection experience

Poor user experience, easy to misoperate, and high cost in user training

User experience greatly improved through step-by-step guidance
